Cold occurs more often than all other diseases. On an average we suffer from cold at least three times in a year. A cold usually lasts from three to ten days. The symptoms are a running nose, sneezing, a rise in temperature, headache, sore throat, chill, aches and pains in the body and loss of appetite. The common cold results from exposure to a virus.

The real treatment for cold is a proper diet.

Natural way to control cold:

·       FASTING:

Begin the treatment with fasting for two days. You should not take anything except lemon juice with honey. You can also take fresh juice, Pineapple juice highly recommended. Taking complete liquid diet neutralizes the acid condition of the blood and also clears the kidneys. Remember to avoid meat, fish, eggs, cheese and starchy foods for few days.

·        LIME

Lime is the most necessary ingredient among the many home remedies for cold. Vitamin C is abundantly found in lemon, vitamin C increases resistance and decreases toxicity. Take a lemon and squeeze it in a glass of warm water and also add one tablespoon of honey to it. This wonder fluid is an ideal remedy for cold and even for dry cough. Take this liquid at least three times in a day for best result.

·        GARLIC:

Garlic is an ancient remedy to reduce cold. Garlic contains antiseptic properties. Take an onion and peel it off and blend the onion to make juice, now add few drops of garlic oil to onion juice and mix well. Now take this liquid in small portions several times in a day. This method is extremely effective in treatment of cold.

·      GINGER

Ginger is also an excellent food remedy for colds and coughs. Cut ginger into small pieces and add them to a cup of water and then boil the water. After boiling the water should be strained. Now add half a teaspoon of sugar to that water and drink hot. You can also prepare ginger tea by adding few pieces of ginger to the boiling water before adding tea leaves.  It isan effective remedy for colds.

·        TURMERIC

Turmeric is a popular home remedy for several health problems. Antiseptic properties which are present in turmeric are an effective remedy for cold. Take half teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with a glass of milk and then boil the milk on a slow flame.You can also add a half teaspoon of turmeric to a burning coal and inhale the smoke which comes out. It will increase the discharge from the nose and will bring immediate relief.

·      TULSI:

Tulsi leaves are meant to be the best solution for cold and cough. Tulsi leaves have amazing healing power. Take some tulsi leaves and extract juice from it by grinding leaves on a stone. In the same extract ginger juice also. Now take one tablespoon of tulsi juice and one tablespoon of ginger juice and one tablespoon of honey, mix them well and take orally for 3 to 4 times in a day. This can also be given to small children.

·        WATER TREATMENT:

A hot water bathis advised as it helps relieve much of the congestion in the chest and nasal membranes. You can also use hot packs which are excellent for treating common colds. Steam bath, keeping your foot in a bucket of hot water is also recommended as they stimulate perspiration. Steam inhalation will help relieve the congestion of the nasal tissues.

·      GARGLING:

Gargling with hot water is beneficial for a sore throat.  Mix a tablespoon of salt to a glass of hot water and then gargle.  Try this for 4 to 5 times daily to reduce sore throat.

 Tips:

·        Take fresh air and deep breathing.

·        Brisk walks helps to relax your entire body.

·        Practicing some yogasanas is very beneficial in the treatment of cold.

·        Always keep your hands clean.
